Honest limits
A comb finds mats — it doesn't cut them out. If you hit one tight to the skin, stop and use a de-matting tool rather than pulling.
Plastic teeth are gentler than steel but flex more on a dense double coat. For a heavy-coated breed, a steel comb works better.
